Nepali Sketches

Whenever I travel somewhere, I take a small sketchbook with me. These sketches where done while travelling through Nepal, some of them on typical Nepali handmade paper.

Sometimes all it needs is a quick sketch of a remarkable scene, which you can later turn into a larger painting.

Rainy Day at the Lakeside

There is a beautiful little village at the “Traunsee”, called “Traunkirchen”, which I like to visit all year round.

Although it’s very nice there in summer, when you enjoy the cool breeze from the cold lake, only on a rainy day you will find this kind of mystical atmosphere…

Idyllic Austrian Village

We’ve got quite a lot of small and pretty villages here in Austria.

St.Wolfgang is probably one of the most popular ones with tourists because of its lake view and surrounding gentle hills and mountains.

At this time of the year it’s very quiet there as well…

Mystical Late Autumn Landscape

I haven’t been blogging for ages. The reason is that I took on a new job. Besides teaching languages, I’m also teaching art at a secondary school, which means a lot of fun and creative ideas but also some challenge since I’m quite new to teaching this subject.

Before I went to school yesterday I took these pictures of the nearby `Hallstättersee´, a place well known for its famous town Hallstatt and surrounding high mountains.

At this time of the year it’s not very busy there but the place still conveys its mystical, wild beauty.

Ink Drawings

These drawings were done quickly with black drawing ink in a small sketchbook.
Often the sketches done without much effort are sometimes the ones which are most interesting…

Still a Nice Still Life

When I found this old lino plate which I was not quite happy with, I decided to cut away as much as possible and leave only the basic objects of the still life on the plate.

Now I like it somehow better than before…

Wild Beauty of Nature

While I was walking around my favourite lake “Eibensee” near my home town today I took some pictures of the blooming nature.

These flowers might not be as colourful and lush like  tulips or roses, but they have their own wild beauty.

If you wonder about the bottle cap, this seems to be a remnant of someone’s picnic at the lake including typical Austrian beer…:-)

Pastel Pictures

I rediscovered pastel drawing pencils and did these small pictures with them.

They should also serve as inspiration sketches for a series of woodcuts I want to do.

Let’s see how that’s going to work out…
