Country of the Master Painters

Most Europeans travel to Amsterdam once or twice when they are young for obvious reasons.
I have never been to the capital of the Netherlands before, which I kind of regret.

The city is really  charming and a paradise for lovers of fine art.

Besides whole museums devoted to master painters like Rembrandt and Van Gogh, you will find a beautiful idyllic landscape with windmills and green pastures, which makes it easy to imagine how this country has been a source of inspiration for the most skillful artists ever.

Wonderful Greece

This summer we have been travelling wonderful Greece. Life is so much slower and easier there, especially on the small Greek islands.

For art lovers this is the perfect place. Everywhere you find the remains of classic antiquity next to byzantine churches as well as modern day street art like in Athens.

Highlights of Turkey

We have just returned from a round trip through Turkey.

It’s incredible what this country has to offer – beautiful idyllic landscapes, the clear blue Mediterranean sea, interesting lively cities, remains of ancient settlements as well as the friendly locals and their relaxed lifestyle.

Everyone interested in history, geography or art should go there at least once…

Here are just some impressions:

Prague – Golden City

We’ve been to several bigger cities this year but Prague has been the definite highlight.

The city has such a rich cultural history, ranging from Romanesque and Gothic church architecture over buildings from the communist era to modern skyscrapers and shopping centres.

Crossing the always crowded Charles Bridge you can walk up to the castle, from where you have the most beautiful view over the old town. If possible, try to visit Charles Bridge early in the morning or late at night.

Among the more hidden and quieter parts of the town is the Jewish quarter with its beautiful synagogues and the Franz Kafka monument but also lesser known places like Bethlehem Chapel or St. Agnes Convent.

This hasn’t been our last trip to the queen of cities – we want to come back in spring when the beautiful gardens around the castle open again!
